Together, Jeff and Laura have had the opportunity to personally impact paddling through instruction and leadership in their local and the national water sports community.

In 2019, Jeff and Laura Liebel, husband-and-wife owners of Wekanu canoe and kayak instruction, joined forces with Earl Ketry owner of RiverWorks in a new venture called Buffalo Paddleworks.

Our History

The WEKANU Paddling School, has been in operation since 2001.  Jeff and Laura started as American Canoe Association (ACA) instructors, teaching and leading trips through the Niagara Chapter of ADK, and with the Buffalo Niagara Waterkeepers.  As Instructor Trainers, they have trained and certified over 200 instructors since 2004.

For over twenty five years, the Liebel’s have owned and operated Counterpoint Consulting, an entrepreneurial management consulting firm specializing in market development, change management, organizational assessment, succession planning, behavioral analysis, management development and training.

In addition to traditional paddling instruction, Laura and Jeff take lessons and experiences from the corporate world and blend them with paddling, which enables them to use it as a means to promote personal growth, team building, and communication skills.
